Planning to escape the rain?

We have had two vaguely warm days but if you are planning to escape the rain in the summer and go somewhere hot the practice provides a full travel advice service to our patients including travel vaccinations, travel health advice (Slip, Slop, Slap), advice about malaria prophylaxis and Yellow Fever vaccinations. Most travel vaccinations are free - the exceptions are generally if you are going to unusual places or doing something unusual e.g. back packing trips in the wilds or staying somewhere for longer than three months.

The commonest vaccinations patients have to pay for are Yellow Fever, Hepatitis B and Rabies vaccinations. You will also have to pay for malaria tablets but the practice does not charge if you need a private prescription for malaria prophylaxis tablets.

The practice is a registered Yellow Fever Vaccination centre. We also provide Yellow Fever Vaccinations and Travel Advice to patients who are not registered with the practice. Our travel advice service is run by our nursing team and they would like you to fill in a Pre Travel Questionnaire before you attend. Completing the questionnaire allows the nursing team to check what vaccinations you have had and plan what you might need for your travel plans.

Welcome to Dr Siobhan Waldron

Dr Siobhan Waldron has joined us today for a six months training post. She is in her first year of a three year GP training scheme and was working in the Emergency Department at Dewsbury Hospital. Doctors who wish to become GPs have to undertaken a three year training programme and have attachments in an approved training general practice. We are an approved GP training practice - Dr Brown, Dr Walsh, Dr Harding and Dr Deeley are all approve GP Trainers and Dr Waldron joins three other trainees attached to the practice - Dr Javed, Dr Tai and Dr Turek, not forgetting Dr Sumara and Dr Timperley who are both on maternity leave! We give Dr Waldron a warm welcome and hope she enjoys her time with us.
