Phones seem to be working normally now. But said that on Tuesday! Keeping our fingers crossed !!!!

New Practice Email Address

In the past we have used our Practice Managing Partners' (Christine Sanderson) email address as a contact email address for the practice. This has worked fine until Christine goes on holiday! Her email is not monitored when she is on holiday and if you have emailed the practice via Christines' email address when she is on leave you would not have had a reply until she returned! We have recently got some new nhs.net email addresses for practice staff and have made a generic email address for the practice. This email address is monitored daily and will be directed onto the correct person in the practice for action. Our new generic email address is kings.medicalpractice@nhs.net , so if you want to contact us by email then this is the email address to use.

Welcome to Dr Siobhan Waldron

Dr Siobhan Waldron has joined us today for a six months training post. She is in her first year of a three year GP training scheme and was working in the Emergency Department at Dewsbury Hospital. Doctors who wish to become GPs have to undertaken a three year training programme and have attachments in an approved training general practice. We are an approved GP training practice - Dr Brown, Dr Walsh, Dr Harding and Dr Deeley are all approve GP Trainers and Dr Waldron joins three other trainees attached to the practice - Dr Javed, Dr Tai and Dr Turek, not forgetting Dr Sumara and Dr Timperley who are both on maternity leave! We give Dr Waldron a warm welcome and hope she enjoys her time with us.

Simvastatin and drug interactions

We have recently received updated advice from the Medical Health Regulatory Authority about the increased risk of myopathy associated with other medication being taken at the same time. Muscle aches with simvastatin are a fairly common side effect but myopathy is more serious when muscles become inflamed and then weak. The full advice can be read here on the MHRA website . The commonest drug that will be affected is amlodipine. Amlodipine is a drug that we commonly use to treat patients with raised blood pressure and the new advice says that the maximum dose of simvastatin that should be used is 20mg. We have decided that the easiest way to manage this situation is actually to swap patients to a different statin that does not have an interaction with amlodipine. Our thinking is that if patients are taking simvastatin in a dose of 40mg cutting the dose down to 20mg will have an adverse effect on their cholesterol control.
